Here are the best zombie films of the twenty first century.
In no particular order they are
World War Z - loosely based on Max Brooks' book it had a tumultuous production but the end result is a fantastic film charting the world wide rapid spread of a zombie plague and starred Brad Pitt. Ongoing rumours suggest it's box office success will mean a sequel but nothing firm has been agreed to so far.
Train to Busan - out of nowhere came this brilliant South Korean movie which as the title suggests takes place on a train to Busan just as a zombie apocalypse starts. The plot is brilliant, the acting is absorbing and the special effects make you realise the South Korean films are much better than many in the West give credit for.
Shawn of the Dead - Alongside '28 days later' this film reinvented the zombie genre in the 21st century with its then unique zom rom com format and features very funny performances by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in the first of their 'Cornetto trilogy'.
Zombieland - another comedy this time set in America and featuring the ever excellent Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson learning how to deal with themselves and each other whilst picking up two sisters on their travels.
Army of the Dead - the latest Zack Snyder offering on Netflix. Notable for its huge budget and the updating of the zombies.
